Death of a Loving Wife and Fond Mother
Rebecca A. Dorsey departed this life at her late home near Morton, Putnam county, Ind, on March 22, 1896, at 9:25 p. m. Death was caused by heart failure. The deceased was born in Springboro, Warren county, Ohio, August 8, 1829. She came, with her parents to Montgomery county in 1836, where she lived until 1880, moving to Putnam county in the spring of that year, and living there until death called her to a more beautiful home. June 10, 1850, she was married to John Wesley Dorsey, and to them were born four sons and two daughters, Mrs. Oscar Cooper, of Morton, Ind Oleon C. Dorsey, Mrs. Wm. Gray, Ernest F. Dorsey, of this city, Arthur M. and Archie L. Dorsey, of Morton, all of whom survive her. The deceased was the second child of Joseph W.and Ruth Anna Griest, both deceased, she having five brothers and four sisters, four sisters and two brothers surviving her, Wm. P. Griest, of this city, Mrs. Mary E. Taylor and Mrs. Rosa E. Brown, of Indianapolis, Almeda E. Green, of Plainfield, J. Milton Griest, of New Haven, Ct., and Mrs. Florence E. G. Simms, of Chicago. The deceased was a true and devoted wife and a fond and loving mother. She was raised in the Friends church, but in the '40's she united with the M. E. church in this city, and she lived a true Christian life up to the time of her death, not realizing that the end was so near. The remains were brought here and placed in the vault at Oak Hill.
